What is your job role and responsibilities?

My job role is a Business Support Unit Officer within the Facilities and Estates Department at NHS.

I am responsible for the helpdesk support, reporting of repairs and faults throughout the main hospital and all of the community hospitals, liaising with tradesmen, supervisors, estates officers and NHS staff members, working as part of a team, processing and raising invoices, processing timesheets, reception front of house, mail distribution and all general administration duties.

What was your motivation behind undertaking a SVQ?

I felt that this was a great opportunity for me to learn and develop new skills which would help further my career. Gaining a qualification and learning new skills which can be transferable is a great achievement for my future and I was excited for the progression.

What advice would you give someone thinking about doing a SVQ?

I would definitely recommend doing this; I really enjoyed mine and felt it was an overall positive experience.

How has your SVQ contributed to your current job role?

I feel more confident within my role and undergoing new tasks. I feel I am happy to train other team members from what I have learnt. Overall gaining new skills and experiences have helped me adapt within my role.

I now have a better knowledge and understanding and feel this will be a huge benefit going forward.

Has your SVQ met your expectations?

Yes, I have enjoyed it more than I actually thought I would!

Overall positive experience which I am glad I have carried out and achieved.

Would like to say a big thanks to Mhairi Quinn (my assessor) who really helped guide me throughout my diploma which made a massive difference for me, I thoroughly enjoyed working with her.

Also thank you to VLA for giving me this opportunity.

I look forward to see what my future brings!
