Case Study
Karen Taylor
Project Support Officer – Highland Council
“I thought it would be an excellent chance to better my knowledge on the subject.”

What is your job role and responsibilities?
I am a Project Support Officer for The Highland Council and I support Project Managers in ICT Services with a variety of IT Projects they are working on.
What was your motivation behind undertaking a Modern Apprenticeship?
In my many years in the workforce I have not previously undertaken a role in IT, so when the opportunity presented itself to enrol in the Diploma in ICT, I thought it would be an excellent chance to better my knowledge on the subject.
What advice would you give someone thinking about doing a Modern Apprenticeship?
As an older female in an office predominately male, I was slightly anxious at first, but have found the course to be very achievable and would recommend it to any one of any age to gain a foundation in IT basics.
How has your Modern Apprenticeship contributed to your current job role?
It has made me realise how much I actually already knew and made me learn more about subjects that interested me. It has also forced me to learn new subjects that I may not have otherwise chosen.
Has your Modern Apprenticeship met your expectations?
All of this has made me more confident in my role here, which is exactly what I expected to achieve.
