By 2020, it is expected that the UK will have more than 750,000 new digital jobs and British businesses will need to train nearly 2.3 million people to meet the demand.
An independent task force has called on the Government to invest £20 million to help embed the new computing curriculum in schools, warning that the UK could struggle to fill digital roles in the future.
80,000 people work in Scotland’s digital technologies industry, which contributes about £4 billion to the economy but while the sector is predicted to enjoy continued strong growth, recruiting people with the right skills is becoming increasingly onerous.
Modern Apprenticeships are structured training programmes which give employees a chance to work towards a qualification. They help you gain the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in your chosen industry. Modern Apprenticeships help employers to develop their workforce by training new staff, and upskilling existing employees. For individuals, an MA is a job which lets them earn a wage and gain an industry-recognised qualification.
Employers who’ve taken on MAs are positive about the experience: 96% say those who’ve undertook a Modern Apprenticeship are more able to do their job. They also praised MAs for improving productivity, staff morale, and service and product quality. Modern Apprentices are also enthusiastic about their achievements – 97% would recommend an MA to other people. They provide an alternative route into the world of work, equipping people and employers with the skills they need to succeed.
