Background
At the Virtual Learning Academy, we provide professional and vocational qualifications to employers and employees. Our aim is to break down the barriers to learning by providing flexible methods to learn and achieve qualifications to support development in the workplace.
At the heart of the VLA is a group of enthusiastic tutors. They come from all different backgrounds bringing a wealth of experiences from a diversity of career back grounds and industries. We look for people with work experience and a passion for learning first and foremost. Previous experience as a tutor is not essential.

The Role
The role is to share your occupational experience with candidates undertaking a vocational or professional qualification whilst working. This may be pupils in S2 to S6 or employees in the workplace. You will support them to achieve their qualification helping them to overcome barriers they experience along the way.
We are offering a variety of flexible contracts. We will consider full time or part time permanent or associate contracts. Salary is £25 to £30k (pro rata for part time). Generous holiday allowance, pension, private health care, laptop and contribution to mobile phone. We support flexible working hours to allow our team to fit their roles around personal and caring commitments. Work may be from home or from our training suite. This will be agreed on an individual basis.
Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities are to:
- Bring your wealth of experience to the role and use it to mentor candidates through their programmes
- Undertake Continuing Professional Development to keep your knowledge and skills up to date
- Oversee the learning content for your area of expertise ensuring it is up to date and reflects current trends
- Undertake Learning & Development qualifications if not already gained
- Set learning plans for candidates
- Motivate and inspire candidates whilst supporting them to maintain progress
- Help candidates to overcome barriers to achievement
- Liaise with the candidate and the employer celebrating success
